The reality of devastation comes alive as young Phillip describes his struggle to save the family’s horses and escape the imminent explosion of his family’s house. An hour before dawn on April 18, 1906, Phillip is awakened by the barking of dogs and the fearful whinnying of his father's horses. Moments later, San Francisco is struck by a tremendous earthquake.
